John Schmitz

John Schmitz

John began his professional career as a business analyst for a large bank, determining the creditworthiness of businesses based upon balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cash flow projections.  He then became the Chief Financial Officer of a Seattle-based start-up company that is still a thriving business. Upon leaving the business, John attended New England Law Boston and graduated in the top one-third of his class.

While at New England Law Boston, John clerked in the First Circuit for Chief Federal Magistrate Judge Marianne B. Bowler.  He went on to practice in the San Francisco area for a law firm in the realm of business litigation.  John then moved to Denver and has practiced intellectual property, corporate governance, employment matters, and mergers and acquisitions, and litigation since then. He's been the lead attorney on acquisitions and divestitures totaling more than a quarter of a billion dollars and also the lead attorney on many other due diligence requests and opinions.

He was born in Denver, Colorado, on January 15, 1978.  Raised in Denver and Evergreen, Colorado.  John attended the University of Colorado in Boulder and received a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the Leeds School of Business.

Barbara Moinester, Paralegal

Barbara earned her paralegal certificate from the University of San Diego (1994) and specializes in intellectual property, business law, and contracts.  She obtained her B.A. from Marymount College, Tarrytown, New York, and Masters credits from USD and Regis University.

A former elementary school teacher and realtor, Barbara is the mother of two grown sons, and in her spare time has volunteered with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) of Jefferson/Gilpin Counties for abused and neglected children.  In addition, she has chaired numerous Ways & Means committees, raising funds for diverse organizations such as the Red Cross, YWCA, and many schools.  After being raised and educated on the East Coast and living on the West Coast, Barbara has now settled comfortably in the mountains of Colorado.

Lana Hofman, Paralegal

After graduating from the University of the Pacific in 1996 with a B.A. in Sociology and Business, Lana continued her education and earned a paralegal certificate in 1997.  Specializing in commercial litigation and business law, Lana assists with legal writing, research, exhibit preparation, and daily tasks to manage ongoing cases.  Lana has a diverse background ranging from journalism and grant writing to public relations, promotions and sales.
